PMDG has released its first post-launch update for the 777-200ER in Microsoft Flight Simulator, addressing a range of model, sound, and graphical issues. The update is now available via the PMDG Operations Center and includes dozens of refinements based on community feedback and internal testing.

The 777-200ER, which followed the earlier release of the 777-300ER, has been positively received by the flight sim community, particularly for its focus on technical and variant-specific accuracy. PMDG says it has been monitoring forums, video content, and support channels since launch to quickly identify and resolve user-reported issues.

Update Build 2.x.101 Highlights:

  • Adjusted exterior lighting for improved visibility during daylight
  • Fixed model anomalies including pitot tube rendering, flap/slat animation, and window clipping
  • Corrected texture and decal issues
  • Audio improvements including cabin sounds, autopilot tones, and cargo door effects
  • Minor camera, LOD, and optimization adjustments

PMDG stated that the update is designed to improve both immersion and performance and should be released to customers shortly after internal beta testing concludes.

WASM Crash Investigation Ongoing

PMDG is also addressing reports of rare but severe WASM crashes affecting the 777-200ER, particularly in MSFS 2024. A WASM crash, the developer explains, occurs when the simulator’s memory management system fails to accommodate complex data structures used by the aircraft, causing the airplane to become unresponsive mid-flight.

PMDG has traced the issue to memory allocation problems introduced in recent SDK builds. Some of these problems were resolved in previous simulator updates, and further fixes are anticipated in the upcoming MSFS 2024 SU2 update. PMDG is also working on a fallback strategy in case the issue persists.

Users who experience a WASM crash are encouraged to submit detailed reports, including route, platform version, and aircraft state at the time of failure.

Development Roadmap: 777F and 777-300ER Nearing Release

Following the 200ER, PMDG is preparing to release the next variants in the 777 product line:

  • 777F (Freighter) has been released to PMDG’s beta testing team.
  • 777-300ER is expected to enter beta testing later this week.

If testing proceeds on schedule, the 777F may be released to customers next week, followed shortly by the 777-300ER.

Additional Product Updates

  • 777-200LR: Development is underway but moving slowly due to resources allocated to the 200ER. Testing is expected to begin around the time the 300ER is released.
  • PMDG DC-6: Final beta testing is pending the official release of MSFS 2024’s SU2 update. PMDG is waiting to ensure necessary fixes in the SDK make it to the stable build before advancing the aircraft into the testing phase.

Conclusion

PMDG continues to actively support the 777-200ER while advancing development across the rest of its 777 lineup and legacy aircraft portfolio. The developer reiterated its commitment to resolving platform-level issues like WASM crashes and delivering ongoing refinements based on user feedback.

More updates are expected through the PMDG Operations Center and official forums as new products near release and further stability improvements are implemented.
